If you read the post on Whole Wheat Tortillas you may have a stack sitting in your refrigerator or freezer and are thinking... now what? How about some homemade tortilla chips!
Start with as many whole wheat tortillas as you would like. In the post on making tortillas I mentioned that my tortillas are never perfect circles. If you ever end up with any really strange shape tortillas that will not work for a taco, burrito, or quesadilla they are perfect for making chips because you will cut it up anyways. :)
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
Lay the tortillas on a cutting board and spray with non-stick cooking spray (I used olive oil but any kind will work) and sprinkle with a little bit of salt. Again, I'm a big advocate of getting creative with your food and this is another chance to do that. My husband seasoned one tortilla with chili powder and another with garlic salt. You could even do a little lime zest and make your own lime flavored tortillas without all the artificial flavorings.
Next, flip the tortillas over and do the same to the other side.
Cut the tortilla into triangles. I did this by cutting them into eighths. You can use any sharp knife to cut them, I used a pizza cutter and it made this part really quick. Once they are cut lay them on a baking sheet and cook for 5-7 minutes or until they are light brown and crispy.
Viola! Delicious, homemade whole wheat tortilla chips in about 10 minutes.
