About Me

Hello and Welcome! I'm Rebecca, a stay-at-home mom to three beautiful daughters (ages 7, 18 months, and 4 months) and a Marine Corps wife to my amazing husband. His job has taken us several places but home is currently southern California. We also have a 2 year old German Shepherd who I truly do love no matter how much she drives me crazy :)

Realfood4realkids is a resource for anyone looking to make homemade food from healthy unprocessed ingredients that their kids will love.

I started cooking for myself when I was 15 (granted I lived completely off of penne pasta and Prego) and ever since then I've been evolving my skills and the ingredients I use. Over the past year especially I have taken a large interest in unprocessed foods. After taking a nutrition class I had a truly Ah ha! moment: If our bodies are biologically designed to run on nutrients why are we feeding ourselves (and more importantly our children) processed foods filled with preservatives and additives? I slowly began to realize that I could easily make my own variations of processed foods from scratch (Why hello whole-wheat cheez-its!)

When I first started making real food my two main concerns were the same as everyone else's - 1. I'm going to end up living in my kitchen 2. It's going to cost me a fortune... and sometimes both of these things end up happening BUT there are also times that I amaze myself at how fast things can be created and the money I am actually able to save by making things from scratch. This blog is set up not only to provide recipes and ideas but also give time saving tips and cost comparisons to conventional products.

If you are new to cooking or trying to cut out processed foods please don't get overwhelmed! Cooking should be fun and enjoyable and remember any amount of change, no matter how small, is success :) So join me on this journey of change.
